Description
In this dynamic lecture, Dr. Wehry, Chief of Geratrics for University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine will help viewers to distinguish between competency and capacity in older adults and explain the elements used to assess this capacity for everyday decision-making. Dr. Wehry will also discuss guardianships and alternatives to these arrangements that may allow for adults to maintain more autonomy.
The Maine Osteopathic Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.The Maine Osteopathic Association designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Faculty
Susan Wehry, M.D. is a geriatric psychiatrist with over 30 years of experience as a physician leader and educator. A passionate advocate for older adults, Susan is determined to turn the tables on stigma and ageism. She has inspired policymakers, caregivers, physicians and other human service professionals from Alaska to Florida. In 2009, she authored Oasis, an interdisciplinary person-centered approach to long term care that has helped transform dementia care across the country. Dr. Wehry previously served as Commissioner of Vermont’s Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living and this past fall joined the College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of New England as Chief of Geriatrics.
