Derek Murphy – DIY Book Formatting for Print and Ebook
Expertly crafted book layout templates in InDesign & Word
Let me start off by saying, I hate book formatting. It’s really boring and pedantic, and a pain in the ass. You have to go through your whole book applying styles and updates and things. Then there are always a bunch of changes or last minute typos you need to fix.
But I also like beautiful books. And readers do too.
When readers find a copy of your book, they’ll pick it up and flip through it. Then they’ll put it back down again if the formatting is crappy. Same thing with the ebook and the “look inside” feature – if it looks like shoddy work, they probably won’t give the story a chance.
So I learned how to design books. I mastered Word and InDesign. I studied thousands of examples. I become an expert in book code and conversion. In short, I became pretty amazing at it.
But I still hate it. Formatting seems like one of those things you can probably do yourself. And yes, you can do it. But the first time you do it, you’ll be pulling your hair out and screaming in frustration – and even then, your book will look unprofessional. You need to do it right.
And it has to look great.
You can hire someone, but it can cost a few hundred bucks (if they know what they’re doing)… and even then, they could know how to use the tools but have an awful sense of design.
I made this course because there are far too few real, in-depth, video training tutorials to book formatting. And I made it free because I love you, and you have enough problems to worry about, and I hope this makes your life a little easier.
Doing our own formatting can save you a lot of money… but keep in mind, it may be worth it to just turn it over to an expert. Even though I can format my own books, I rarely do, because I’d rather spend my time doing other things.
This course includes…
Step-by-step tutorial videos to help you learn book formatting as quickly and painlessly as possible, as well as dozens of professionally designed book formatting templates that will shave hours and hours off your learning curve. Here are just a few examples of the templates inside; there’s even a set of genre-specific templates that can work with any genre.
This course costs $47 and includes dozens of MS Word and InDesign templates – others are charging more than for just one template, with very little support. But formatting is a valuable skill, and I want to help you actually learn how to use the programs on your own.
