Dr. Brown and Jason Haxton will be doing the first in a series of historical perspectives on Osteopathic Medicine. In this first webinar, they will be discussing, comparing, and contrasting what the start of medical school was like in the early years of Osteopathic Medicine and what it is like today. They also will discuss what student life was like in the early years.
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss, compare, and contrast what the start of the school year was like in the early days of Osteopathic Medical School to what it is today.
2. Describe what student life was like in the early days of Osteopathic Medical School.
3. Explain A.T. Still’s view on race and acceptance of minorities into medical schools in the early years of osteopathic medicine.
4. Develop an understanding and appreciation of the historical aspects of osteopathic medicine and their relationship to the practice of modern osteopathic medicine.
Accreditation Statements:
The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation.

Grievance Policy:
All grievances should be in writing and should specify the nature of the grievance. Dr. Michael Brown is a graduate of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his medical residency in Family and Community Medicine at Truman Medical Centers. Currently, he works for Meritas Health in North Kansas City, where he practices family medicine. Dr. Brown has held many positions within the American Osteopathic Association and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and currently serves on the MAOPS board where he holds the office of President-Elect. He lives in Smithville, MO with his wife and six children.

Jason Haxton Related seminars and products: 7
Jason Haxton, MA, DO (h.c.) has been the director of the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine since January 2001. Besides managing the Museum that was created in 1934, he makes multiple international trips each year (Belgium, Russia, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Brazil and the UK) to provide lectures, historic research materials and promote the principles of osteopathic medicine through exhibits for osteopaths globally. At A.T. Still University in Kirksville he keeps a busy schedule teaching medical students and welcoming guests from around the world to the museum. His leadership at the Museum was recognized as an American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Shining STAR organization for its work promoting the osteopathic profession worldwide.
