Lee Varis – Special Illustrative Effects
The project shows how to create 2 special “looks” for an image that simulate a classic illustrative effect. The 1st tutorial shows how to create a film processing effect while maintaining maximum flexibility and control. The project continues with a contrast and “film grain” effect and finally arrives at a unique photo-drawing effect. Along the way you learn how to use:
- Reverse Curve adjustment layer,
- Layers and Layer Masks,
- Difference layer blend mode,
- Advanced Blending Options,
- Noise & Gaussian Blur filters,
- Motion Blur & Unsharp Mask filters.
The 2nd tutorial re-creates a traditional 1960’s poster effect. Then, a unique psychedelic effect is added. Along the way, you will learn how to use:
- Threshold adjustment layer
- layers & layer masks
- Advanced Blending Options,
- Smart Objects
- Gaussian Blur & Find Edges filters
- Gradient Maps
- Difference layer blend mode.
The original photos, as well as, the finished Photoshop documents with all the layers are included with the work files.
