Description
The number of ED visits in the United States increased by 14.8% from 2006 to 2014. To expedite the care, Dr. Tom Trent and Dr. Nathaniel Barbe discuss the Do’s and Dont’s of case referrals.
Learning Objectives:
· To identify minor and major trauma presenting to the ED.
· Prioritize injuries and the need for early intervention and referral to other specialists.
Accreditation Statements:
The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1.25 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation.

Grievance Policy:

If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, then they can then submit a complaint in writing to the Council on Continuing Medical Education of the AOA at 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.

Tom Trent, DO
Dr. Tom Trent is a graduate of Oklahoma State University – College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Tulsa, Oklahoma and completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria. He is an attending emergency medicine physician at Cox Monett in Monett, MO and serves at the Director of Urgent Care, Director of the Emergency Department, Chief of Medical Staff, and Director of Time Critical Diagnosis for Cox Monett Hospital.
Nathaniel Barbe, MS, DO
Nathaniel Barbe, MS, DO is a physician in the Family Medicine Residency program at Capital Region Medical Center who works alongside patients to help them achieve and maintain their best overall health. He realizes that the key to better health is understanding your own personal health and health needs. Prior to becoming a physician, Nathaniel taught as a high school science teacher in south-central Missouri and worked as a chemist in central Missouri. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Cheryl and together they have four wonderful children. Nathaniel holds a Masters in Biomedical Science from Kansas City University and a Doctor of Osteopathy from Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine.
